Control of Hazardous Energy Sources (Lockout/Tagout Program)


IX. PROGRAM AUDITS

A. RESPONSIBILITY

Audits of the Lockout/Tagout Program shall be performed by a supervisor from Physical Plant (or other affected department as appropriate). The audit shall include an inspection. The inspection shall be performed by an authorized employee other than the ones utilizing the energy control procedures being inspected. EH&S is responsible for updating and editing content as appropriate in this written program.

B. FREQUENCY

Audits of the Lockout/Tagout Program shall be performed annually.

C. CONTENTS

  1. The audit shall review the entire program to ensure that energy control procedures are in place and are being properly followed.

  2. If tagout is used in lieu of lockout, the auditors must verify that the additional prescribed means of protection are being used.

  3. The audit shall include a review between the supervisor and each authorized employee of that supervisor’s responsibilities under the energy control procedure being inspected.
