Environmental Health and SafetyDEA Controlled SubstancesMillie Tran, Biosafety Officer, 619-594-2865 <mdizon@mail.sdsu.edu> Procedure for the Use of Controlled Substances in Research and InstructionAuthority and Regulatory Compliance The university’s program for regulation and administration of controlled substances distinguishes between patient-care applications (e.g., Student Health Services or Athletic Medicine) and use by faculty and staff involved in research or instructional activities. EH&S has been delegated the responsibility for coordination of acquisition, distribution, use and disposal of controlled substances used in research or instructional applications at SDSU. The use of controlled substances in patient-care applications or areas is not within the auspices of this control program. Pharmacists and physicians supporting Student Health Services will operate under their own DEA Registration Numbers and will maintain their own purchase, record keeping, disposal and other regulated practices. Compliance with federal and state laws and university procedures is expected by all individuals and groups associated with SDSU. These regulations include the following:
