Voice Mail

San Diego State University voicemail service is available (at minimal cost, see Voicemail Rates section below) to any faculty or staff member with an extension on the campus telephone system. Standard installation is one mailbox per extension, but for offices where more than one person shares an extension, multiple mailboxes can be installed. Basic Voicemail

Basic voicemail features include listening, forwarding, deleting or saving messages. For additional features and details, see Voicemail Quick Reference and Shortcuts below. New and saved messages will be stored in the system for 30 days. For additional assistance, email Telecommunications and Network Services (TNS) or call 619-594-3500.

We created a temporary number to use between now and 5/31/13. Note: your "password" is now called "security code" in the new system. Your mailbox is the same as your five-digit extension. Access the new voice mail system using one of the following 3 options:

Voicemail Rates

Voicemail installation: $10 one-time fee
Basic Voicemail box: $3.50 per month
Caller Menus: $5.50 per month plus one-time setup fee (time and material)

Other Services

Security code Reset/Mailbox Reset
We cannot recover a forgotten security code but can reset the security code. If a new employee is using a telephone extension with an existing mailbox, we recommend completely resetting the mailbox.

TDD/TTY Mailbox

We offer a mailbox that recognizes Baudot tones used by a Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD). Mailbox prompts are in Baudot tones, allowing hearing-impaired users to use a TDD to access voice mail. Mailbox greetings can be recorded with voice, Baudot tones, or both.

Caller menus

We provide a caller menu application, which provides callers a list of different options to route calls to appropriate destinations.

Announcement boxes

We can provide a mailbox that is programmed to play an informational message to callers but will not accept messages.

Distribution List

Departments and on-campus organizations can have a distribution list containing their employees’ or members’ mailbox numbers. Messages sent to the distribution list will be copied into all mailboxes on the list.
