Network Services

Network services provides San Diego State University with an efficient and advanced network computing environment, including the installation, configuration and management of wired and wireless connections and connectivity. Network Services offers design and consulting services to campus departments and colleges, and maintains the TACACS remote access and faculty/staff email systems.

Billing

Telecommunications & Network Services (TNS) provides network design and consultation for new campus installations and upgrades to existing wired and wireless networks. Consultations are free of charge. For more information, or to schedule a consultation, please contact your area’s Technical Contact (TC) or call 594-3500.

Repair costs for equipment purchased by TNS, and used in common with the campus community, are assumed by TNS. Any costs for repair of non-SDSU held equipment, including items owned and operated by the SDSU Foundation, Aztec Shops and others, or items damaged by users, is subject to a $40.00 hourly rate.

Network Consultation

Telecommunications & Network Services provides network design and consultation for new campus installations and upgrades to an existing Local Area Networks (LANs). Consultations are provided as a courtesy of TNS and are free of charge. To schedule a consultation, or for more information, please contact your area’s Technical Contact (TC) or call 594-3500.

Network Rate

Network Services charges a one-time-only fee for the installation of any authorized networking equipment. All charges are subject to change without notice.

Wireless

TNS Provided SDSU Wireless

Telecommunications and Network Services provides the SDSU community with a centrally-managed wireless network. The network is 802.11 b/g, commonly known as Wi-Fi.

TNS will continue to increase the wireless coverage in campus buildings and gathering areas with classrooms, conference areas, and other common areas as priorities. Many of the installations will follow the current Telecommunications Infrastructure Project.
